I have never liked pesto. I have never understood pesto. Like, what do you do with a sauce that's really just ... leaves suspended in olive oil?

However, I got a CSA this year (for the first time ever--it's something I've wanted to do for so long! You can't imagine how freakin' excited I was to get our first pickup last week--and it was so much food!), and in it came all sorts of leafy greens I didn't know much about and never (thought I) liked, including arugula. I was looking for something to do with all the arugula (A FULL POUND. THAT'S A LOT OF ARUGULA), came across mention of arugula pesto, made some today, and ... wow, that's some really good shit! Like, really good! I still can't quite believe it.

So, wise readers, any suggestions on how to eat pesto, other than on pasta? I'm just trying it on a bagel and that's great, but any ideas about it would be most welcome ....

(And if you've ever had a CSA, I'd love to hear about your experiences.)

I loooooove pesto! XDDD Well, I love basil in any form, really. But broccoli pesto, etc.--also great. MMMM, SALT. GARLIC. I'll usually make it with walnuts or almonds, though, because pine nuts are ridiculously expensive and I have no great love for pine nuts, anyway. I've never tried arugula pesto, but I do really love arugula. I'll have to give that a shot! It has that distinctive spiciness that would be great for a pesto, for sure.

I've used pesto as a spread on bread instead of mustard/mayo. As a topping for steamed vegetables, or a stir fry. In an omelette instead of cheese. (Okay, forewarning, I am a very lazy food maker who is not very picky, so I will generally just put whatever I have in the fridge into the same meal regardless of whether it makes sense. So uh, know that that's where this list is coming from. XD) As a marinade/topping for baked chicken. In place of red pizza sauce. On naan with cheese, which I guess is basically just the same thing as a pesto pizza. You can use it as a soup base (with low sodium broth, or else it will be INSANELY SALTY), and add in protein, veg, kalamata olives, whatever. Dumplings or matzo balls are good in that, since those are nice bland nuggets to go with the flavorful broth. In place of any kind of salad dressing. (Knowing me, I'd dress my arugula with arugula pesto, lol. Actually, I'd probably put arugula into/onto literally all of these things.)

Mmm, yes, pesto on pizza is great. And now I'm hungry.

I use it on melted cheese sandwiches - pesto, cheese, and tomatoe, and grill it. so nice. sometimes I'll just put the pesto on a tortilla and grill that, and it's really nice too. you can use it as an addition to potato salad. and of course I used to get it and use it instead of butter on a salad sandwhich. oh! and you can put a dollop on soup (it's nice on pumpkin) and it gives it a boost.

of course it depends on the pesto. I remember buying a rocket and macadamia pesto and it was AWFUL!

Can I just say I love that arugula is called rocket in the U.K.?

Anyway, I love basil pesto, but everything I use it on is pasta related.
