So basically [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] septembers_coda said everything I wanted to say, but this is a beautifully written story. Deep and fascinating, and I love how it extrapolates canon, brings this heartbreaking, incredibly brutal theme of how the brothers are just the more perfect figments of a young imagination to fray. Dean, the performer, the loyal, the ultimate hunter and Sam, the reluctant hero, the compassionate, the smarter: both just archetypes of someone imperfect and not really either of them. And in the end-- the line from John! After years and years of "Look after Sammy!" and "Save him or kill him," to wrap it into the shell of this story and to bring it out at the very end, it's a real punch to the gut.
