Yeah, I wanted to make sure to make him as crappy a dad as Sam and Dean say he was, but I hate when stories cast someone as unredeemably evil, so I just tried to be as true to the character as possible, and MAKING HIM A CRAPPY PARENT DID NOT END UP BEING A PROBLEM--I just had him do whatever he would do and that's how it came out. Something about the relative ages and temperaments of all three characters makes all their interactions so fraught and difficult.
