Love, love, love!

I think you're right - Sam does need to realize he needs Dean to need him. He doesn't realize that everything he ever wanted, he already has. I feel that Sam doesn't see himself as that savior of the world (he only sees his mistakes -i.e. the episode with Sam making Cas pull Gadreel's grace out of him). Sam wants the house with the girlfriend/wife to take care of because he needs to be needed just as much as Dean does. Right now, Dean is the one who takes care of everyone. So in order for Sam to feel independent/self-sufficient/trusted/valued and not like he's being smothered (as in all "All my life, you call the shots. Just this once will you listen to me? Trust me?") Dean needs to let Sam take care of him. It needs to be a two way street. (Of course they were almost there when Dean let Sam grow up, not be 'little bro' anymore, and handle Lucifer. Tho with how that ended, no wonder Dean grabbed the reins once again). This way Sam has a stake in the partnership and feels like Dean trusts him and his choices. Maybe that's why Sam wanted to be partners and not brothers, because that is an even playing field, a work relationship of equals without all the emotional ties in the way. Of course you can't just erase 30 years of brotherhood. My hope for s9 is that Sam finally gets to save Dean and be fully validated. In turn, Dean will get the love he so desperately craves. Because that's what it all comes down to right? Maybe Crowley had the right idea when he said "I just need to be loved. I deserve to be loved!". Only on SPN would the moral of a story come from not only a demon, but the king of Hell.
