Oh wow!! Great job doing paintings!! I love the palette you ended up on, and I was actually going to say the same as amberdreams in that pure black is almost never a thing - it's always got shades of something in it. I just did some digital painting for the first time in one of my uni classes, and our teacher taught us that for shadows, we should be using dark, dark purples, blues, or browns to create shadows, never pure black. So it's funny and interesting that a broken tube forced you to explore that, haha!
