Hm, well, even statistically speaking, it looks like dreamwidth really IS the best place for fandom.

I happened across this page on feedly.com, which appears to automatically aggregate information--in this case, the "Best Fandom Blogs and Websites." In addition to results from AO3 and a few from lj, as well as a couple of independent blogs, 8 of the top 20 results were from dreamwidth! Woot!!

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I really love dreamwidth as a platform. It offers just about everything I could want from a fandom blog site. Between that and knowing the folks in charge are firmly dedicated to providing a place to host fannish content, dw is feeling like a really nice place to have made my fandom home.

That is definitely a curious set of results. It seems to be less a matter of popular blogs than accounts that have RSS feeds subscribed to via feedly (because AO3 clearly is not a blog) which are classified as fandom ones.

So what that tells me is that fans who use feedly are primarily interested in staying up to date with LJ-diaspora people and events. Particularly strange are the AO3 tag feeds at the end. I'm baffled as to how these accounts get ranked since some with fewer followers are higher up on the list than some with more. Clint/Darcy is most definitely not a more popular pairing than Derek/Stiles!

Good point! The subset of people who know what RSS feeds are, and of platforms that still support RSS nowadays!

AO3 tag-wise, personally I'm way more likely to follow a RSS feed for my smaller, rarer ships (and that's what I do with my Dreamwidth feeds) because I don't check the tags as often (or forget altogether). My reading page (and myself!) would feel totally overwhelmed following the tags for the big ships! And because there's something new every day anyway, I already check there regularly without a feed. So I can kind of understand the pattern, even if people with different feed collections/categories probably set up better systems than I do, haha.

Yeah, feeds are excellent for that. Because even on AO3 a rare ship might have a new work once every few months. And you're right -- an active ship will mean a number of big updates a day.
