Your headcanon differs slightly from the show's (when Sam learned about monsters) but I have to say I find yours a lot more believeable. Growing up in a reality of monsters and violence and instability would mess up any kid, and I feel you've explored really well HOW it would mess them up.
Even when the characters in your fic are doing things that that may on the surface seem OOC (Dean contemplating killing his father), it remains absolutely in character in the circumstances you've written here.
I think my favourite part is the bit about the ghoul teacher, and the ensuing conversation between Sam and Dean about what makes a monster. I feel like canon hasn't explored this enough.
And this line here:
“Dean, you’re the only person in this world I really know ... You’re the only one I know isn’t a monster.”
is amazing. It really struck me, really memorable.
