Your headcanon differs slightly from the show's (when Sam learned about monsters) but I have to say I find yours a lot more believeable.
Thank you!! I do, too. I've thought about this a lot. Of course the show would want to introduce viewers to monsters by introducing Sam and Dean to them at the same time, but if hunting is the "family business," they'd know about a lot more than ghosts, werewolves and demons. Canon does seem to relax on this in later seasons (maybe they came to the same conclusion), implying they did a lot more hunting when they were younger than they first indicate.
I feel like canon hasn't explored this enough.
ME TOO. Sometimes I think they're going there in the current seasons, but other times I can't tell. (I ain't too happy with the show starting with S8, as you've probably surmised if you read my lj, and one reason is that they seem to have thrown canon out the window entirely.)
