So, I just started watching BBC's Sherlock (two episodes so far), and I mostly like it except ... is it always so sexist, or will that get better? I am a Cumberbatch fan, the production is excellent and the writing is pretty good, but I've never been a big Holmes fan, so the sexism might be a deal-breaker for me.

It's pretty consistent - I have a hugeass post of mine that I can link you to, if you like.

I'm in love with the show (and have been a Holmes fan since about age 5) but it certainly has Issues.

PS - I'm so curious! How did you become a fan without having watched Sherlock? :D That's cool.

I was really hoping you'd comment, because I know we've bonded on the question of sexism in shows we love before (but certainly not sexism we love in shows!!). ;-)

Yes yes, please link to the post!

If you're interested, you can see my complaints so far about Sherlock in another comment ....

Ah, Cumberbatch, *drool*--oops, I mean, what a talented actor, ahem. I really liked him in the latest Star Trek movie; that's the only place I've seen him before Sherlock, but just from what I've seen of him in Sherlock, I'm absolutely blown away; his acting is on another level entirely from most actors, which is a big part of why I want to keep watching the show, simply because his performance is so riveting. (And the fact that he's easy on the eyes doesn't hurt .... ;-) )

My rantpost about women in Skyfall, SPN, Sherlock, and more, WHICH IS HOW I MET YOU I THINK? but maybe you didn't read the Sherlock part back then: http://rosalui.livejournal.com/93328.html

Yes, that is where we met!! Indeed I didn't read the Sherlock part then since I hadn't yet seen it, and I did now, and it sounds both better and worse than I was hoping, alas. Ah, well, I'll give the show a bit more of a chance. (Lovely drawing of Cumberbatch on that link, too!! :-) )
