Ads??

Is anyone else suddenly grappling with freakin' massive amounts of ads here on lj? There's even one that's a streaming video, so it significantly delays posting comments. Nice job, lj, if you're trying to drive away the stalwarts who've stuck with you all this time. :-#

Yep, there's a new "version" of LJ, which I only know from seeing people mention it; it looks the same to me-- except that yes, now I see way more ads!

I think that there was actually a glitch in LJ for a long time that allowed non-paid users not to see ads. I didn't see ANY for the longest time, except for a sort of "see your ad here" thing that showed up now and then. I'm guessing LJ's advertisers got pissed about that, so LJ "fixed" it. :-}

I remember those glorious accidentally ad-free days!

I'm getting them on every pane--really obnoxious, huge ones, and right in the middle of the page too, starting just today. NOT COOL, LJ.

NOT COOL AT ALL. Ugh. I think I've been spared some of that because I've been logged in since before it started, maybe. I see ads, and some are in the middle of the page, which I agree is super-annoying, but I haven't gotten that many yet. :-)

I think there are more ads than there used to be! And like SC said, I also get the impression the ads I'm actually seeing, I was supposed to have been seeing the entire time. Damn it. XDD Haven't gotten any vid-ads yet--that's GROSS. :\

OH, I FIGURED OUT MY PROBLEM. XD I turned off my AdBlocker extension so I could watch a video on Hulu. PRAISE BE, I HAVE TURNED IT BACK ON! Phew!

I seem to have been the last one to the ad-blocker club, but I'M HERE AT LAST, AND THE INTERNET IS A BETTER PLACE NOW. And yes, the word that came to mind for the vid ad was GROSS indeed.

Isn't it just??? Though I'll admit I kind of like the ads on the CW website, lol. "Oh, so that's what The 100 is!" / "Why are The Flash's ads better than our ads."

The CW's ads for their own shows can be enjoyable, and yeah, The 100 looked kind of awesome! But MAN is it ever nice not to have to sit through the ads within episodes--a totally unexpected benefit of getting adblocker!

I have a paid account, and I use Ad-Block for Mozilla on my browser. Ad-Block works REALLY well, it's free, and there are versions for most browsers. So regular sites with ads don't show them either. Rarely I can't view content because of the ad-blocker, but not so much that I will turn it off.

I too use an adblocker, although I use UBlock because it's lighter on memory. I also use a flash blocker which really helps stop autoplay video. Both can be turned off easily and only for the page you are on when you have to.

I've seen people talking about using ad blockers, but seeing you and others talk about specific blockers gave me some actual, reputable kinds to choose from, I loaded one, and suddenly, problem solved! :-) Thank you very much for the tip!

I haven't suffered from ads for a while, but I have a paid account, and have been on the new style for over a year...would that make a difference?!

Glad to see it's sorted, nothing worse than spammage (the horrid kind) blocking up your lj!
