Bad Friday

I have not one but TWO sties on my right lower eyelid, also zits coming out of nowhere, including one in my ear (the best kind, right? :-#). I realized it's probably because I cried so much a few days ago, because I ran over a snake. A big, pretty one. :-( s_c and I were once able to save a snake crossing the road by stopping in front of it so no one could run over it, but this time, I was on a fast road and didn't realize what it was until the split second before the tires were over it. Maybe I'm weird for crying over a snake, but snakes have been really good to me, and he was so pretty there shining in the sun, and it made me sad. Then, when we pulled over at s_c's work so I didn't have to drive and cry, the security guard came up and accosted us harshly through the car window; I had no idea anyone was nearby and I screamed. It was trauma on top of trauma, leading to realizing it's time to just stay indoors for a while, so that's what I did for the rest of the weekend, and I'm glad of it. That night, naturally, a bill came from my dentist's office for amounts they aren't allowed to charge me, which they've done now twice in a row, AND charged me a (tiny) late fee for the previous amount that their own billing company refunded to me for this reason when I tried to pay it. They said they'd called my dentist's office and worked it out with them, but here I'm being billed for it again, plus late charge. NOTHING THAT CAME FROM THE OUTSIDE WORLD WAS GOOD THAT DAY. A very bad day. And my dentist's office is closed for eleven days right now. (!) I think maybe it's time to find a new dentist, seeing as how she also left me waiting while she chatted up another dentist talking about donuts (true story) for twenty minutes before finally getting to me and being ... not all that nice when she finally deigned to see me. Ugh. So anyway, that was my Friday.

Oh sweetheart I'm so sorry!! ♥ I know you have an affinity with snakes and that you've got a very healthy respect for all live *hugs* You couldn't have stopped, it may have caused an accident, just remember that. As for the security guard and the dentists, couldn't find their ass with both hands!! Is there anything I can do?

Aw, bb, you're the sweetest. You really know me about living things--yesterday we discovered the lawn mowing people had completely chopped down a beautiful flowering plant we have, and I cried and cried all over again. :-( :-( Fucking life.

You're so right that it could have caused an accident, but there literally wasn't even time to think about swerving. It breaks my heart because birds and prairie dogs and squirrels can learn to be careful of a road, but it's just not a thing a snake could understand. I also realized he was only on lane two of six (!), plus he might have wandered around by the gutter any amount of time looking for the place where he wanted to cross the median, so the chances of his surviving crossing the road were very slim even if I'd managed to avoid him, but still, why'd it have to be me? :-( Ah, fuck, and now I'm tearing up again.

You are so sweet, bb. Just knowing you're here is a great comfort. <3 <3 <3

I'm going to tell you a funny story, just in case it helps.

TWENTY years ago or so, my sister and I were driving along, and I saw something in the road that I thought was an albino snake. I turned the car around, because I really wanted to see it, and my sister was like, what theheck??? Whhhhyyy? When we got back to the spot, it was gone and my sister was laughing at me, because she thought it was so ridiculous that I thought there might have been an albino snake in the road, and I was like... it's GONE, that PROVES it was a snake, and not just a piece of rope or something.

So began the greatest bet of our lives. I bet her a Mrs. Murphy's donut that I could prove that it was POSSIBLE that it was an albino snake. She took the bet because she couldn't conceive of a way that I could prove it.

I contacted this local nature museum about the issue, and they sent me an official letter saying that it was totally possible that I had seen an albino snake. They themselves had found an albino snake in the wild, and had it on display. Furthermore, they stated, albino snakes are quite commonly sold in pet stores, and people buy them, get sick of taking care of them, and release them into the wild all the time.

I really, really, wish I had saved that letter, because we still talk about this bet all the time. But! I did one better. seven years or so ago, I visited the nature center, and got my picture taken with their albino snake. It's one of my favorite pictures of myself ever.

I hope your day gets better, and yes, definitely get a new dentist.

:)

This IS a great story, and a great picture! I saw that picture on your fb and always wanted to know the full story. :-) What a beautiful snake! And your expression is priceless. :-D I hope you got your donut!

I did some research on the dentist, because I was so weirded out by the whole thing. Turns out she had just gotten a complaint from the BBB before my last appt, and I suspect she might think it was me who made it, so maybe that's why she was kind of rude, but thinking back on lots of things, I've concluded she may (usually) be very nice, but ... not very good at her job. Definitely time to find somebody new!

Thanks for the story, bb.

Sorry Sweetie! :-( Hope the rest of the weekend was better. <3

My car broke down yesterday on the way to my brother's house for a barbecue, so I wish I had stayed inside instead!

The outside world's been mean lately! I'm just trying to stay in a lot.

I hope your car's better! First the door and now this?!

Thanks, hon. <3

Oh yeah, definitely time for a new dentist. I sat in an exam room once for an hour while I listen to the doctor and his staff laughing it up outside and I finally just left and never went back.

OMG! Is there any way he'd never been told you were in there, or was he just that rude? Was there any reaction when you left?

It does make me feel better to know at least I'm not the only one! :-]

No, I think he knew. The first time I saw him, I waited in the waiting room for an hour and then sat in the exam room for almost another hour. Then, when I went back for a follow-up appointment, they sent me back quickly so I thought the first time was a fluke. But after sitting there an hour, and listening to a lot of conversation outside, I finally opened the door. He was there with a couple of nurses or other staff. And I doubt he'd been there an hour, I'm sure he was gabbing in between seeing patients, but you don't chit chat while people sit in your waiting room for a fucking hour. So I opened the door, the three of them stared at me like deer in the headlights, and I said "I'm sorry. I've been in here an hour and I don't have time for this. I've got to go." And I walked out and never saw him again and they didn't bill my insurance, which is almost unfortunate because I would have enjoyed losing my shit over that. ;-)

I'm glad he knew! Hopefully that made him rethink his approach. My dentist before this one (from whom I inherited this dentist--she bought her practice) was SO careful about making sure you never had to wait, and it was GREAT. And NO, you don't chit-chat when someone's been waiting that long. Maybe he could, I dunno, consider only making appts when he's sure he'll be able to see the person in a reasonable amount of time?!

I'm so glad they saw and you said something and that they didn't bill you, because that would've been BULLSHIT.

I am so sorry about the snake! Years ago, a car my husband was driving hit a bluejay. We pulled over the car and gave it a spontaneous little service. We felt so terrible.

((hugs)) Hope the world's better to you when you next venture out!

Ah, thank you. I had to go out again yesterday, and that was a shitty day, too! It all seems like a clear message to stay in, so I've been doing as much of that as possible. Summer's my least favorite season, anyway.

I hate hitting animals (a hazard of living in a fairly wild area), but a snake just can't move any faster than that, you know? :-( That's sweet of you to give the jay a service.
