I am super crazy good at a video game no one's ever heard of, that isn't even available anymore (at least, the version I play). In the credits, the game's makers thank their beta testers, including one "who won the game in an amazing 75 (game-play) days!" I've gotten to the point where it's an off day if I do it in over 74 days (fewer days is better), and I've done it in as few as 72.

It's called Magic Farm. You grow and harvest flowers and make bouquets to make money and travel in an effort to find your lost parents. You get shipwrecked and have dealings with a pirate, in addition to many other more benevolent characters. It was free when I got it. It was never popular; now my version has disappeared from the internet (along with a disappointing number of other awesome games, including Tip Top and Cosmic Switch).

I have games I paid a pretty penny for, but damn if Magic Farm isn't the one I'll always come back to. MAGIC FARM. But as with everything else I bothered to get really good at, MY SKILL MEANS NOTHING, NOTHING! There's no glory in this world for magic farmers! Alas. But LET IT BE KNOWN I WON THE GAME IN 72 DAYS!!!! (Hears voice echoing back, then crickets.)

If you're a gamer, what's your favorite unpopular game?

According to ye olde interwebs, assuming it's the same game, there are 2 sequels.

You could always email your results to the developers - it's their baby, they might be interested to see someone still cares about them.

I'm trying to think of any obscure games I care about. I've got a lot of old demo discs for my PS2 (yep, old school), and there are a few little demos I play a lot still. Including a few of the old Net Yaroze things.

I used to totally love Speed Freaks, which was a kind of Mario Kart knock-off for the PSX.

I do love to go back to old games. I'm still playing my old PSX/PS2 era Silent Hill and Resident Evil games to bits.

Yes, I was so excited when I discovered those sequels, but alas, they're TERRIBLE. :-( That's a cool idea to email my results to the developers--maybe I will!

I really love old games, too. I doubt I'll ever fully give up Civ 3 or some of my other old games.

I am so sad I no longer have my Sega Mega Drive. I miss that damn thing. Thankfully, when Sega kind of went under in the console market, they released the back catalogue of Sonic games to the PS2. So I still have that.

Magic Farm sounds like fun! Yay for your skills and success with it! \o/

I'm not really an active gamer, and have no idea what's popular or unpopular, but lately I've been playing Recettear (https://www.gog.com/game/recettear_an_item_shops_tale) ^_^ It's fun, and suitably challenging, and it has this super positive main character :D

If we're talking about really old games, the first game that I was really addicted to was Nethack (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NetHack). I never played it all the way through, but I got pretty far :) I've been meaning to try it again, since it still exists!

Ah, thank you, bb. It IS fun! Recettear sounds similar to the time-management games I enjoy, but with a dungeon-crawling aspect? Sounds neat!

I'd never heard of Nethack, either, but I followed the link--it sounds so cool! I've seen histories of things that only happened within MMORPGs, and I find that stuff fascinating, so I love that they've held a tournament every year for Nethack since 1999. Fellow gamer, thanks for weighing in. :-)

I'm not sure I would call myself a gamer, but I LOVE plants vs. zombies. That's my go-to for a couple minutes whenever I am stressed out.

BE PROUD of your MAGIC FARMING SKILLZ!!!!

:)
