As some of you know, we're going to VegasCon. YEAH, BABY!!

Although there's a pretty straight shot from here to there on the interstate, it's still a long drive, so we already reserved (and paid for!) a night in a mobile-home VRBO about halfway there for Tuesday night, so we have to leave Tuesday.

Just today, I learned there was a big rockslide between here and there on the interstate some weeks ago. They managed to get one lane open and were taking people through there via a pilot car (just like Sam talks about in that fic I wrote recently, "Night Closure"), then they got one lane open going each direction, so it's been open all this time, though there have been delays. No big deal, right?

Because it's a busy road, it's been hard for them to find a time to close it down to finish repairs. GUESS WHAT DAY THEY DECIDED TO CLOSE IT DOWN ENTIRELY, ALL DAY.

As celtic_forest and I were discussing below, the delays the website suggested would add 5+ hours to the trip. (!!) There aren't really any good alternate routes in that part of the state, alas. But yes, we can definitely still go! Supposedly they'll open it again at the end of the day (oh please, please, let it reopen on schedule), so we'll time it to try to pass through then and then hopefully just be later than intended to our vrbo. Anyway, even if we had to miss that overnight stay and drive all the next day to get there, there's gotta be SOME road that's open!

Holy crap, I just looked at the map of the potential detours. That sucks.
Maybe if you left a bit before sunrise, you could get through before they close it at 9?
If it would help to start an hour(ish) closer, you guys could spend the night here Monday night.

Supposedly the interstate will be open at the end of the workday, so we'll just leave later than we intended and let them know we'll be a little late--hopefully it'll work out all right, and hopefully they really will open it up again when they say. Better than trying to race the construction and maybe getting there right as they close it. Thank you so much for the kind offer, though. <3 <3
